Umber (Macbeth equivelent: Macbeth) Physical: Age: 39 yrs. Ht: 6'4 Wt: 215 lbs. Blond hair, blue eyes. Scars on right side of face. Blind in right eye. Nearsighted; wears glasses. Affilation: oversees Trilogy's security force, which polices the City. The "democratic" police are merely for show; anyone with half a brain knows Umber & his "kids" are the real power within the City. Likes: Arkady, Grant, keeping the City safe, upholding what he thinks is morality and order. Dislikes: androids, drug dealers, murders, rapists (pretty much anyone who breaks his laws) people who say things behind his back, people who try to be his friend to get ahead. Pushy people. Most people. History: Nobody knows exactly
where Umber is from (he has an accent that resembles an Australian
accent) or when he came to the City. He was first hired by Arkady's
father as muscle for his illegal drug trade within the City.
The hiring proved a mistake, as her father underestimated Umber's
vicious loyalty to his own set of morals. Things took a turn
for the worse during Arkady's kidnapping. Angry that her father
was willing to sacrifice his daughter in order to keep his illegal
activities quiet, Umber faced down the kidnappers and rescued
Arkady ... which set in motion the events leading to the death
of Arkady's father (he was not a man gifted with good judgment
of character, or great foresight), and later the story you read
here. Personality: standoffish and a
loner, he's still managed to form a close friendship with Grant.
Generally though, he's a very private person, and protective
of Arkady, whom he has had a relationship (supposedly secret)
with for as long as Trilogy has existed. He's also very devoted
to his "kids", or those he's handpicked to be a part
of Trilogy's police force. Grant was one of his earliest finds. Notes: I'd suggest watching
Gladiator for a nice peek into Umber's physicality...
^^; He's more at home on the streets of the City, battling what
he deems to be crime (he's a principled man, though because he
always thinks he's right, this proves to be a problem for Max
and Grant), then dealing with the business end of Trilogy. Secretly
I think he wishes that he and Arkady could have a more normal
life, and live openly as a couple, but she wouldn't allow it. |
